Two face multiple charges related to Orillia shoplifting probe

Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two people with multiple Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences following a shoplifting investigation at a local business.

On April 9, 2022 around 9:30 p.m., Orillia OPP officers were dispatched to a theft in progress from a Murphy Road area business. With the assistance of store staff, police were able to locate two individuals who fled the scene on foot nearby. The investigation also revealed that the individuals arrived in a vehicle still located in the parking lot. Police were able to determine that the vehicle was reported stolen from the Bancroft area.

As a result of the investigation, two people have been charged.

Rhonda Fults (45), of Bancroft, was charged with:
    •    Resist Peace Officer, CC 129(a)
    •    Escape lawful custody, CC 145(1)
    •    Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, CC 355(a) - two counts
    •    Theft Over $5,000, CC 334(a)
    •    Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, CC 355(b) - eight counts
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid, CDSA 4(1) - two counts
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Other Drugs, CDSA 4(1)

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, on May 17, 2022.

Brook Brethour (21), of Bancroft, was charged with:
    •    Escape lawful custody, CC 145(1)
    •    Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, CC 355(a) - two counts
    •    Theft Over $5,000, CC 334(a)
    •    Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, CC 355(b) - eight counts
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid, CDSA 4(1) - two counts
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Other Drugs, CDSA 4(1)

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, on May 17, 2022.
