Two local residents facing drug charges after RIDE stop in Rama

More than 40 grams of cocaine and $3,000 in cash was seized; A 20-year-old from Severn and 23-year-old from Orillia are each facing charges

Two local residents are facing multiple charges after police seized cocaine, scales, cellphones and about $3,000 in cash following a RIDE stop in Rama First Nation early Sunday morning.

Two local residents are facing multiple charges after police seized cocaine and about $3,000 in cash following a RIDE stop in Rama First Nation early Sunday morning.

According to a media release, Rama Police Service officers were conducting a RIDE check on Side Road 25 when a vehicle entered the area at 3 a.m. on March 3.

Officers conducted an impaired driving investigation during which police seized more than 40 grams of cocaine, two digital scales, three cellphones, packaging material and approximately $3,000 in cash.

Parker Grossul, 20, of Severn Township was charged with four criminal offences and two provincial offences including impaired driving, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, possession of a Schedule 1 substance (cocaine) and possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Dante Larson, 23, of Orillia, is facing four criminal charges including failing to comply with a probation order, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, possession of a Schedule 1 substance (cocaine) and possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Grossul was released after sobering up, police say. Larson was help pending a bail hearing.

The vehicle they were operating was towed and impounded for seven days.
