Police search for suspect after 'very disgusting' spitting incident

'This would be assault at any time, but particularly concerning considering the times we are in with COVID so prevalent,' says police official

City police are hoping to find the people involved in an alleged road-rage incident yesterday that resulted in one person spitting in the face of another.

Police say the incident occurred Thursday at 3:11 p.m. on Dunlop Street, west of Highway 400.

The victim was pulling out of a driveway when the offending vehicle approached, leading to some uncertainty about where the car was turning, according to police.

“There seemed to be some confusion as the victim thought the driver was turning earlier than thought,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday. “This led to some not-so-nice words from the offending vehicle where, eventually, as the cars got side by side, the female passenger spit in the victim's face.

"Very disgusting," Leon added.

Photos were taken and police have released them publicly, as well as the description of the vehicle involved in hopes someone will know and report the suspects.

“This is an assault and is being investigated as such,” Leon said. “This would be assault at any time, but particularly concerning considering the times we are in with COVID so prevalent.”

Anyone who recognizes the occupants of the four-door sedan can contact the Barrie police at 705-725-7025, ext. 2504.
