Wild ride in stolen car ends by crashing into High Street home

'Suspicious vehicle' fled from police, crashed into home, prompting driver to flee to nearby home's roof before being tracked down by dogs; 3 people face multiple charges

A trio of out-of-town residents took police on a wild ride just after midnight that culminated in their stolen vehicle crashing into a home on High Street.

Orillia OPP officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle with multiple occupants on West Street North at about 12:35 a.m. this morning.

When local officers arrived, the vehicle promptly sped away.

"Officers did not follow the vehicle due to public safety concerns," Acting Sgt. Brett Boniface said in a news release.

Soon after, however, multiple 911 calls were received about the speeding vehicle that ended up crashing into the High Street home. Police say the home's residents were not injured, but there was significant damage to the residence.

The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene on foot and was located a short distance away — on the rooftop of a neighbouring home — with the assistance of the OPP's canine unit.

Three occupants in the vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.

Police located numerous identifications, credit and debit cards in the vehicle, not belonging to any of the occupants. On top of that, the vehicle had been reported stolen to another police service.
