Year ends with three area drivers facing impaired charges: OPP

Bracebridge OPP wrapped up 2023 by charging three people with impaired driving-related offences.

On Dec. 29 at 7:15 p.m., a member of the public called police to report a possible impaired driver on Highway 11 North. The driver took the Muskoka Road 118 exit and continued toward Bracebridge, refusing to stop for police, according to a news release. Officers followed the vehicle to a location on Kirkhill Drive and arrested the driver.

Jeffrey Sallows, 61, of Sarsfield, was charged with impaired operation, impaired operation (over 80), dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. He was also charged with several Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act offences. He has a Jan. 30 court date in Bracebridge. 

On Dec. 31 at about 2 a.m., officers were patrolling in Bracebridge and “became concerned about the driving behaviour” of a vehicle on Taylor Road. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was charged.

Taylor Devitt, 27, of Huntsville, was charged with impaired operation (over 80). She is set to appear in court in Bracebridge on Feb. 6.

On Dec. 31 at 9:45 a.m., a motorist contacted police to report a possible impaired driver on Bethune Drive near Brock Street in Gravenhurst. The vehicle was located on Pinedale Lane.

Samuel Asante, 38, of Gravenhurst, has been charged with impaired operation and impaired operation (over 80). He has a Jan. 16 court date in Bracebridge.
