Orillia Secondary School was placed in a 'hold and secure' on Tuesday, police say.

Just before noon, Orillia OPP officers responded to a weapons call where a male youth allegedly had a knife and was threatening to harm another student.

Just minutes after noon, officers located the male suspect, who was not an OSS student, at a separate local establishment, notes a media release from the Orillia OPP.

The male youth, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged with:

  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Carrying concealed weapon contrary to section 90 CCC
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to section 88 CCC
  • Obstruct peace officer contrary to section 129 (a) CCC

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

A hold and secure is called when there is an incident going on outside the school environment. During a hold and secure, activities continue inside the building, but all exterior doors are locked and no one is allowed to enter or exit the building.
