Youth flees Port Severn dispute on ATV, rams OPP vehicles

A young male has been arrested in connection with incident that also saw him strike three private vehicles; OPP helicopter, K-9 unit, ERT all called in to help

GEORGIAN BAY TOWNSHIP - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) at 11:26 a.m. July 24, 2019 responded to a dispute at a Port Severn residence.

Prior to the arrival of officers, a youth on an ATV fled the residence driving highly erratically striking two responding OPP cruisers, three private vehicles along with causing mischief at a nearby resort.

Assistance in the investigation was requested with the following attending the scene - OPP Central Region K-9 Unit, Emergency Response Unit (ERT), Aviation Services from OPP General Headquarters in locating and finally stopping the ATV on Highway 400 northbound off ramp at Port Severn Road Tay Township.

Highway 400 north and south bound lanes were closed from 1 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. by responding OPP officers from Port Severn Road to Quarry Road during the investigation in the interest of public safety while the ATV was located, stopped and arrested without injury.

The male youth whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) is currently being investigated for numerous Criminal Code Driving offences.

Officers remind motorists and operators that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways, waterways and trails. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority and stress that drivers/operators make the right choice and never drive impaired.
