Cars were scarce and snow was everywhere when this photo of Front Street was taken in 1910. Contributed photo

Postcard Memories is a weekly series of historic postcard views and photos submitted by Marcel Rousseau. Some were previously published by the Orillia Museum of Art and History and in the book Postcard Memories Orillia. You can take a trip down memory lane with us each Saturday morning!

Winter is just around the corner! This is a scarce photo postcard of Front Street looking north from King Street, circa 1910.

There are no cars to be seen in this photo, but in the distance are three teams of horses. The team on the right, with a cutter, is parked beside the road, while the two teams on the street are working in tandem, pulling plow blades to clear the heavy drifts of snow.

The homes on the right have been demolished over the years, and was for many years the location of the Switzer Planing Mills Ltd., which is now vacant.
