You are looking at a postcard featuring Simcoe Lodge at Atherley, circa 1930.

Built in the early 1900s, the Simcoe Lodge faced The Narrows on what is now Creighton Street, near the current location of the Lakeside Motel.

The lodge was purchased in 1920 by Mr. Walter Cook from Mr. and Miss Thompson. At that time Creighton Street was the main road to Brechin.

Going east on Highway 12 from Orillia, the road turned right after crossing The Narrows, proceeded past the Simcoe Lodge, then turned left toward Brechin.

In the mid 1930s, a new road was built straight from The Narrows to connect to the old road, just before Byers Equipment. Shortly after, the Simcoe Lodge fell into disrepair. It was demolished in the early 1940s.
