Unique series of postcards told some tall tales about Orillia

'Exaggeration' photos were originally created by American photographer and sold in communities across North America in 1920s

Postcard Memories is a weekly series of historic postcard views and photos submitted by Marcel Rousseau.

Some were previously published by the Orillia Museum of Art and History and in the book Postcard Memories Orillia.

These are four of several postcards in a series, published by the Canadian Post Card Co. of Toronto in the 1920s. These “exaggeration” or “tall tale” photos were originally produced by William H. Martin, an American photographer.

These “trick” cards show wildly exaggerated photos of fish, animals and vegetables.

These popular postcards were sold in many communities across North America with the distributor changing the place name to match that of the town or city in which the cards were being sold.
