Hike for Hospice is a unique initiative held across Canada. This event brings together organizations dedicated to hospice palliative care, aiming to raise awareness and gather financial support within their local communities. All the funds raised during the Hike for Hospice stay within the community where they were generated.

This year’s local Hike for Hospice takes place on May 5 and supports both Hospice Orillia and Mariposa House Hospice.

Individuals and teams can easily register online. There is no registration fee, thanks to the amazing sponsors and the pledges collected by each hiker. Be on site (Barnfield Point Recreation Centre located at Tudhope Park in Orillia) for 10:30 am to get ready for the hike, which commences at 11:15 am. All hikers will be guided through a group activity of warm-up stretches. Then it’s off to hike your choice of route, the 5 km or the 2.5 km.

To keep hosting costs low, Charity Village has provided a free platform where only a small fee of 1.5% is charged to process the donations. Participants can collect pledges either through this online platform or by printing out a copy of the pledge sheet. All cash, cheques, and pledge sheets should be brought along when checking in at the Hike. There is a non-mandatory option to provide a tip to Charity Village when using their online service to process donations. This tip greatly helps their cause and is an important part of their fundraising.

Participants can look forward to a fun-filled day with many prizes up for grabs! In addition to a spectacular prize table, there are three prize categories: Top Individual Fundraiser (adult), Top Individual Fundraiser (child), and Top Team. Winners will be announced during the closing ceremonies. All registered hikers will receive a T-shirt. As there is a limited quantity per shirt size, early registration is encouraged. Registration is required by April 12th in order to receive a Hike for Hospice T-Shirt. If you need assistance registering, please call either Hospice Orillia (705) 325-0505 or Mariposa House Hospice (705) 558-2888.

Hikers and non-hikers can donate to the cause. Donating to the Hike for Hospice is about more than just giving money. It's about supporting a cause that touches us all at some point in our lives.

Donating to the Hike for Hospice is easy and can be done online. Simply visit the Hike for Hospice donation page, select the amount you wish to donate, and fill out the necessary information. You can choose to make a one-time donation or set up a recurring gift. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, makes a difference.
