This is the second year that the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Foundation has held the Soldiers’ Summer of Winning raffle. The special two-month raffle, currently underway, has a larger jackpot and big early bird prizes.

Last summer’s Grand Prize was a record-setting $55,420, won by David Keeble of Bracebridge. According to Jeff Sieger, Data and Finance Associate, OSMH Foundation this year’s Soldiers’ Summer of Winning 50/50 draw is on track to break that record. “We also have our biggest Early Bird Draw ever, $5,000 on August 23,” he said.

Sieger explained the draw is a win for the community and a win for the hospital. “It’s a great way to support Soldiers' Hospital and the health and well-being of the community, while also having a chance to win money,” he said. “Tickets start at just $10, and we also have a brand new ticket tier, 1,000 tickets for $1000, as well as many other ticket-buying options.”

Since its beginnings in 2021, the Soldiers’ 50/50 Raffle has brought in 1.2 million dollars, of which half has gone to winners in the Simcoe Country area. Proceeds from the raffle have gone towards new equipment at the hospital, including the new CT Scanner and MRI machine.

“Last year’s winner was able to join his family on a trip to Newfoundland, and help his daughter buy a much-needed car.” said Sieger. “Other winners throughout the years have ranged in age from 26 to well into their 80’s, and all have been from the local Simcoe County area,” he finished.

“Since the 50/50 draw started, 8,500 unique people have bought tickets. This has translated to much more awareness of our facility and our needs in the community.” Sieger said.
