Mariposa House Hospice celebrates its major capital donors

Community-minded individuals and businesses made it possible to build new residential hospice in our community

Mariposa House Hospice, set to open for admissions early in 2021, features a residential care area with five private home-like “suites”.

Each suite includes a hospital bed for the individual, a terrace with large patio door so that the individual’s bed can be wheeled outside, a Murphy bed for family/friends to stay overnight, a comfortable reclining chair, a private two-piece washroom, and other amenities including a TV and small fridge.

The residential care wing also offers a spa room with large family-sized therapeutic bathtub and a shower room. Nursing and personal support staff will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The building features a variety of common spaces - both indoors and outdoors - including a living and dining area, a kitchen, a children’s corner, a family room, an outdoor patio/BBQ area, a variety of gardens (kitchen/herb garden, butterfly garden, rain garden) with a gazebo, and outdoor walking trails.

The average length of time that an individual stays at the hospice for end-of-life palliative care is one to three weeks. Offering this alternate setting of care is important for our community. It leads to lower health care costs, opens space in acute care settings, and supports mental, emotional and physical well-being for both those who are dying as well as for family members and friends.

As the building nears completion after breaking ground in August of 2019 (click here to read that story), the organization wants to publicly acknowledge some of the major capital contributions with this five-part series of articles that is running on Tuesday mornings.

Following up on Part 1 of our series to publicly acknowledge some of the major contributions to our capital campaign, Mariposa House Hospice is pleased to acknowledge and thank the following contributors for making it possible to build a residential hospice in our community.

  • Paul and Joy David
  • John and Marg Mayo
  • Dave Carson

A virtual grand opening is now being planned for early February. Please visit our website for more information: www.mariposahousehospice.com
