Pair of OSS athletes run their way to spots at OFSAA

Local athletes shone at Georgian Bay Secondary School Association regional meet to punch their tickets to provincials

Two hard-working Orillia Secondary School students shone at the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association (GBSSA) cross-country running championship held earlier this week at Arrowhead Provincial Park in Huntsville.

Despite rainy conditions and a muddy course, both Audrey Reickenburg and Mason Jacobs persevered and managed to earn strong finishes at the event that attracted the top high-school runners from Simcoe County and beyond.

Reickenburg placed fifth in the senior girls' race to qualify for the upcoming Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) cross-country championship slated for Nov. 2 in Sudbury.

For the dedicated Grade 11 student, who placed second in the GBSSA series overall in points, it will be her second trip to OFSAA, the provincial championship for high school athletes.

Jacobs is a para athlete who, thanks to his strong showing at GBs, will be competing at OFSSA for the third straight year.

Both are hoping to cap their stellar seasons with strong showings against Ontario's top athletes.

Three other local athletes will also be competing in Sudbury. For a story on those athletes, click here.
