Assault charges laid following incident at Barrie hotel

Woman charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and assault after man seriously injured during 'disagreement' Tuesday

An arrest has been made in connection to an incident Tuesday in Barrie that left a Richmond Hill man with life-threatening injuries.

Barrie police responded to a report of a suspected robbery shortly after 8:30 a.m. at the Quality Inn on Hart Drive, where a 63-year-old man had been injured following a “disagreement” with a woman, according to a news release.

Police obtained video surveillance footage showing the woman leaving the hotel. Shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday, police arrested the 33-year-old woman, of no fixed address, on a street south of Queen’s Park. She has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and assault. She was held in custody and had a bail hearing set for Thursday.

The man is being treated for life-threatening head and facial injuries at a Toronto-area trauma centre.
