'Disagreement' at motel leaves man with serious head injury

Female suspect fled following 'isolated incident,' say police; male was taken to a Toronto trauma centre

A 60-year-old Richmond Hill man suffered serious injuries and a woman is being sought by Barrie police after an altercation Tuesday morning at a local motel.

Police received a call for service at 8:39 a.m., June 27, at the Quality Inn on Hart Drive about a robbery, but upon arrival officers found a man with a serious head injury.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said the man was transported to local hospital, but has since been taken to a Toronto trauma centre.

“This is an isolated incident and while it was initially a robbery, investigators have been working since the call on this as it appears there is a different angle to it,” he said.

“This was an apparent disagreement between a man and a woman, who were not known to each other, which led to the male’s head wound and the woman fleeing the scene," Leon added.

Leon said motel staff have been co-operating by providing surveillance video, but the investigation is ongoing.

The female suspect is described as white and possibly in her early 20s.
