A 45-year-old man from Mississauga is charged with theft under $5,000 following an investigation by Orillia Ontario Provincial Police into a stolen Black History Month proclamation, according to a news release.

On Feb. 7, the police received a complaint that an unknown person had taken the document that was on display for public viewing at the Orillia City Centre. The resulting investigation led police to identify a suspect. On March 7 the suspect was arrested and charged and the stolen property recovered.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia a later date in April.

Police did not name the suspect.
