Police have finally confirmed they have identified the human bones found in the woods off Highway 26, but will not be releasing the name of the person they belonged to.

Huronia West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced today that the bones belonged to a person reported missing in July 2020, but foul play is not suspected.

The bones were discovered on May 24 at about 3:30 p.m. by a land surveyor working in a wooded area about 200 metres off Highway 26 in Wasaga Beach.

The post-mortem confirmed they were the bones of the person who went missing three years ago.

"Out of respect for the family's privacy, we are not releasing the name of the deceased," stated a news release from OPP.

Const. Lindsay Griffin said police will not be providing any more details on the deceased person.
