Charges laid after axe pulled during argument: police

Man, 64, has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order, police say

An Alliston man is facing charges following an altercation involving an axe in downtown Barrie on Monday.

Shortly after 12 p.m., city police responded to an argument between two men at the parkade at 33 Collier St.

The incident escalated when one of the men reportedly pulled a small axe out of a bag and threatened the other man.

Police say the men left the area on foot when the argument ended.

Police located both men. The one with the axe was arrested without incident near the Five Points. The other was found near Clapperton and Collier streets, and he provided police with details of the altercation.

A 64-year-old man has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order. He was released from custody and is set to appear in court in Barrie on Aug. 9.
