Damage to three homes estimated at $12M in Richmond Hill blaze

Damage to three homes is estimated at more than $12 million following a massive blaze that began in an unoccupied house under construction in Richmond Hill Sunday night.

Residents of neighbouring homes were evacuated as the fire quickly spread from the house on Duncan Road, near 16th and Bayview avenues, on Sunday, March 10 at about 11:45 p.m., according to a York Regional Police news release.

Numerous calls were received from concerned citizens reporting that the entire house was engulfed in flames, police added.

Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services extinguished the fire, however, the house under construction was destroyed and two adjacent homes were "severely damaged," police said.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, police said, and the Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating.
