Four drivers facing impaired charges after 4 separate crashes

Three men and one woman are each facing multiple charges after the recent rash of collisions, says Orillia OPP

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged four individuals with impaired driving over four days, all involved in collisions.

On Feb. 8, at approximately 4:45 p.m., police were dispatched to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital with injuries by Simcoe County paramedics. Upon conducting the investigation at the scene, police determined that the driver was impaired. A drug recognition evaluation was completed by a drug recognition expert (DRE). 

As a result, Rose Ford, 24, of Ramara has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- cause bodily harm
  • Operation while impaired- blood drug concentration
  • Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs

The accused was released on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on March 21.

On Feb. 8, 2023, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision on Penetanguishene Road in Oro-Medonte. Upon arrival, officers determined the male driver of the vehicle was showing signs of alcohol consumption. The driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

As a result, Daniel Roney, 34, of Barrie has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Dangerous operation

The accused was released on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on March 7.

On Feb. 10, shortly after 10 p.m., officers responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision on Orion Boulevard in Orillia. Upon arrival, officers determined the driver was displaying signs of alcohol consumption.

As a result of the investigation, David Lees, 58, of Barrie has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol contrary to section
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section

The accused was released on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Feb. 28.

On Feb. 11, shortly after 11 p.m., officers responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Orillia. Officers attended the scene and spoke with the driver, who was showing signs of alcohol consumption.

As a result, Kyle Ferguson, 29, of Gilford has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on March 7.
