A Barrie police officer takes notes at the scene of a stabbing which occurred on Dunlop Street East, near Owen Street, late last night.

A man suffered serious injuries after being stabbed during a group assault in downtown Barrie last night.

On March 12 at 9:42 p.m., city police responded to a report of a man who had been seriously injured after an incident which involved a group of people on the north side of Dunlop Street East, west of Owen Street.

From the investigation that followed, police say they determined there were two victims who had been injured after an interaction with a group involving five or six individuals.

One man had been struck with a blunt object and was not seriously injured, while a second man had been stabbed, police said in a release.

The stabbing victim was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“A perimeter was established by responding officers and canine tracks were conducted in the immediate and surrounding area,” police said. “Regrettably, these were unsuccessful in locating the suspects wanted for this occurrence.”

The investigation is ongoing and there have been no arrests.

Police say video surveillance footage from the downtown area will be reviewed to possibly identify those responsible.

Anyone who has information that may assist with the investigation or may have dash-cam video is asked to contact police at 705-725-7025.
