Local man charged with theft from a vehicle, trespassing

With help of canine unit, the suspect was found hiding underneath a trailer on rural property

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested an individual attempting to enter a residence and vehicles on Carlyon Line.

On Feb. 11, 2023, shortly before 9:30 p.m., police were dispatched to reports of a male entering vehicles and attempting to enter a residence near Carlyon Line and Division Road in the Township of Severn.

The individual was initially detained by a nearby resident, however fled prior to police arrival. Police contained the area and with the assistance of OPP Canine and the Central Region Emergency Response Team, the individual was located on an adjacent property hiding under a trailer. 

As a result, police have charged Russell Felts (35), of Orillia, with the following:

  • theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle
  • possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • trespass at night
  • fail to comply with probation order - two counts

The accused was held for a bail hearing on Feb. 12, 2023 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie, Ontario.
