Man, 30, killed in Penetanguishene shooting: OPP

Southern Georgian Bay OPP are investigating after a man was killed at the Village Square Mall in Penetanguishene.

One man is dead following a shooting in Penetanguishene, Thursday evening. 

Southern Georgian Bay OPP is seeking the public's assistance in the investigation after officers responded to reports of gunfire around 5 p.m., July 27.

Police and emergency services found an injured man in the rear parking lot of the Village Square Mall. The victim was transported by Simcoe County paramedics to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The victim has been identified as Jesse Daniel Deschamps, 30, of Penetanguishene.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled at the Ontario Centre of Forensic Science.

Investigators are hoping members of the public can help identify a vehicle of interest, and its occupant/occupants, which was observed leaving the scene. It is described as a black Ford F150.

Police say the suspect, or suspects, may still be armed. If you see a suspicious person or vehicle that may be linked to this incident, police urge you to call 911 and do not approach.

"Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to public safety," OPP stated in a news release. "Members of the public are reminded to always be aware of their personal surroundings and safety at all times."

The investigation is being conducted by Southern Georgian Bay OPP's major crime unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
