Man taken to hospital after shooting in Barrie (update)

'There is a person who has sustained an injury as a result of the shooting and that is all I can tell you at this time,' says Barrie police official

Barrie police are investigating a shooting in the city’s southeast end Tuesday evening that sent one person to hospital.

Police were called shortly after 6 p.m. to a residence on Country Lane, in the area of Mapleview Drive East and Huronia Road, where Barrie police communication co-ordinator Peter Leon said the investigation is continuing after a man was shot.

“We have had an incident that has taken place on Country Lane. It's very fluid in nature and I don’t have a lot of details right now, but we will provide more when we can by way of social media,” said Leon.

“There is a person who has sustained an injury as a result of the shooting and that is all I can tell you at this time," he added.

Around 9:30 p.m., police said they had two suspects in custody.

Leon said the victim was taken to local hospital, but police later said he has been transported to a Toronto-area trauma with serious injuries.

Barrie police had an area taped off in front of a home at 46 Country Lane as officers collected evidence Tuesday evening.

Police say they believe this is an isolated incident and there is no risk to public safety.
