An Orillia man is in hot water with the OPP following an incident that began when he was allegedly drinking alcohol behind an Atherley Road business.

Orillia OPP say they were contacted at about 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 11 by a store employee who reported that three people were consuming alcohol in the rear of the business.

One of the individual refused to provide his name to officers and attempted to leave while police were still investigating the incident.

According to an OPP media release, the individual was subsequently arrested and "became aggressive with police and caused a disturbance." The release says that during the incident, an officer was assaulted by the individual.

As a result, John Blais, 51, of Orillia was charged with obstructing a peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest and causing a disturbance.

Blais was released on an undertaking and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia to answer the charges on Oct. 4.
