An Orillia man is facing several charges following a traffic stop in Rama.

On March 9, "officers from the Rama Police Service conducted a traffic stop within the territory of Rama First Nation to check the sobriety of a driver," notes a media release.

As a result, Brendan Vanschepen, 39, was arrested and charged with several provincial and Criminal Code offences.

Police say the Orillia man was charged with:

  • Impaired driving - refusal to comply with demand
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance - cocaine

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on April 2 to answer to these charges.
