Orillia teen arrested for local arsons

Fire was set at same Peter Street business twice in three days

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has made an arrest in relation to arsons in the City of Orillia.

On Nov. 3, 2018 at approximately 2:40 a.m. police were dispatched to a business on Peter Street South in the City of Orillia with reports of a fire. Police observed a small fire in the foyer of the business which was quickly extinguished.

On Nov. 6, 2018 at approximately 6:40 a.m. The Orillia OPP was again contacted by the same business on Peter Street South in Orillia with reports of another fire in the foyer. 

Police attended with the Orillia Fire Department on both occasions and the fires were quickly extinguished.

An investigation into the incidents was commenced and as a result Brian MacMillan, age 18, of Orillia was arrested and charged with arson contrary to Section 434 of the Criminal Code.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and released on a Recognizance with a court appearance of Nov. 19, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.
