The driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck is facing a dozen charges after he was allegedly involved in two separate crashes within minutes Monday morning.

On March 25 at 9:10 a.m., South Simcoe police initially responded to an OPP report related to a fail-to-remain collision involving a pickup truck on Highway 400. The suspect vehicle was last seen exiting the highway at County Road 89 in Innisfil. Shortly thereafter, South Simcoe officers were called to a two-vehicle crash on 89, near the 10th Sideroad.

Upon arrival, police discovered that one of the vehicles involved in the collision matched the description of the vehicle reported by the OPP moments earlier.

The crash resulted in injuries to both drivers and they required medical attention. Investigation at the scene showed the driver of the truck may have been impaired by drugs. He was arrested.

A further probe revealed the vehicle he had been operating was stolen.

As a result, South Simcoe recovered a 2021 Ford F-150 stolen from Peel Region and charged a 44-year-old Wasaga Beach man with operation while impaired, dangerous operation, possession of stolen property obtained by crime, operation while prohibited, and eight counts of failure to comply with an order.

“South Simcoe Police are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly,” the department said in a media release. “Impaired driving poses a serious risk to public safety, and (police remain) committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.”
