A 19-year-old Barrie resident has been charged in the wake of a single-vehicle crash just north of Barrie that left one person dead and three others injured this past spring.

Tyson Kowalewski has been charged with careless driving causing death in relation to the May 6 crash that occurred on Ridge Road between Line 4 and Line 3 South in Oro Medonte Township.

Orillia OPP, Simcoe County Paramedic Service and Township of Oro-Medonte Fire, were dispatched to the area just before 11 p.m. that evening after a report of a single vehicle rollover collision. Emergency crews located four vehicle occupants.

An 18-year old Barrie teen was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. A second person was transported by air ambulance to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious, life-threatening injuries and two other occupants with minor injuries were transported to local hospital.

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the collision scene to assist with the investigation and Ridge Road was closed for several hours for the investigation.

Kowalewski is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Nov. 1.
