Orillia OPP officials are remaining tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was found deceased in a wooded area near Front Street on Tuesday.

According to Const. Lori Baker of the Orillia OPP's Community Mobilization Unit, a passerby found the deceased individual. She could not provide specific details about where the body was found, but it's believed to be in the wooded area behind the former CN train station.

Baker says she is "unsure" of the cause of death, noting a post-mortem is scheduled to determine the cause of death.

“We are unsure until we have that post-mortem completed. We will be sending out an updated media release once we have more information,” Baker said.

Baker doesn’t believe the incident is related to an incident last Friday in which an unresponsive male was found behind the  Atherley Plaza. Despite life-saving efforts from first responders, James McConnell, 46, of Severn Township died a short time later.

“We don’t assume so, but until we know the cause of death, we don’t know,” she said.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit is assisting with this ongoing investigation. Baker stressed there is no risk to the safety of the public.
