Police received the call shortly before 8 a.m., Thursday, about a person possibly brandishing firearm at Bayfield Street and Highway 400

Reports of a man yielding a firearm on a Highway 400 overpass in Barrie this morning turned out to be unfounded, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

Police got the call shortly before 8 a.m., Thursday, of a person possibly with a gun at the overpass on Bayfield Street in Barrie’s north end.

“There was no gun, there were no weapons located or identified,” confirmed OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt with the Highway Safety Division.

“We did get a call, we investigated and it was all unfounded," he added.

Barrie police were also notified and did respond, said communications co-ordinator Peter Leon, however they were ultimately not required.
