Routine traffic stop leads to bevy of charges for area man: OPP

Police say the 35-year-old driver was charged with impaired and had both cannabis and liquor 'readily available' while at the wheel

On Dec. 10, 2022 at 3:45 p.m., a Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was on general patrol in the town of Bracebridge near Meadow Heights Drive and conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act offence.

The officer soon entered into an impaired driving investigation and subsequently arrested and charged the driver, 35-year-old Evan Monk of Port Sydney, with the following:

  • Impaired operation of a vehicle CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b)
  • Operation while prohibited CC 320.18(1)(a)
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with cannabis readily available CCA2017 12(1)
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available LLCA 42(1)(b).

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Jan. 3, 2023 to answer to his charges. Furthermore, his vehicle has been impounded.
