The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in to investigate after an Ontario Provincial Police officer struck a 30-year-old man in Innisfil on Wednesday morning, resulting in serious injuries.
According to the SIU, officers tried to box in and arrest a man who was driving an SUV in the area of Mapleview and Bayview drives in Barrie as part of a drug investigation. The suspect fled the scene and struck a hydro pole at Commerce Gate and Innisfil Heights Crescent in Innisfil.
The man then took off on foot and was struck by an officer driving an unmarked pickup truck. The suspect was taken to a Toronto hospital.
