Barrie police stopped a vehicle Friday night on Rose Street.

A teenager faces drug and weapons charges after Barrie police say he threatened a pedestrian with a "large knife" Friday night.

Shortly before 9 p.m., March 31, Barrie police officers responded to a call about a vehicle travelling on Dunlop Street that had a number of people inside, with one in particular who was "acting in a suspicious manner."

Police allege the passenger in the front seat was yelling at people on Dunlop Street and was "seen to be in possession of a large knife and threatened a pedestrian."

This information was shared with police and the vehicle was eventually stopped on Rose Street where the occupants were taken into custody.

The driver and three male passengers were all transported to Barrie Police Headquarters on Fairview Road where the investigation continued.

The driver and two passengers were later released unconditionally.

However, police say the 19-year-old male who occupied the front passenger seat and was allegedly seen with the knife was charged with weapons dangerous and two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance (fentanyl and methamphetamine). He was later released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on May 10, 2023.

"Barrie police wish to thank the public, and in particular those who called in reports of this motor vehicle as it made its way from the downtown area to various locations in the north end of the city," police stated in a news release.
