Two charged in downtown Orillia assault with weapon

Police say 'multiple knives' were used in assault; third suspect being sought

Two people have been charged and a third is wanted by police following an assault with a weapon Tuesday in downtown Orillia.

Shortly before 6 p.m., Orillia OPP responded to West and Mississaga streets for reports of three people involved in an altercation. In a news release, police said “multiple knives were brandished and used in the assault.” 

Michelle Demaine, 52, of Orillia, has been charged with assault with a weapon, and Justin Smith, 37, of Orillia, has been charged with assault. Both have Nov. 7 court dates in Orillia.

A third suspect, whose name has not been released, is being sought by police, who said there is no concern for public safety, calling Tuesday’s incident “isolated.”
