Police have arrested and charged two people in relation to a stabbing incident last month in Orillia that left one person with serious injuries.

At about 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 17, emergency crews were called to a residence on Barrie Road, where police say a person was assaulted outside of the home. The assault then continued inside. The victim was taken to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

This week, Orillia OPP officers along with the OPP's community mobilization unit executed two arrest warrants at two separate locations, where the accused were located.

David Shirk, 37, of Ramara Township has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, robbery and wounding and failure to comply with a probation order.

Orillia's Ashlee Rusby, 29, was arrested and charged with assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, robbery and wounding and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

Both accused remain in custody and are being held pending a bail hearing, notes an OPP media release.
