Arrest made in spree of break and enters

Two Barrie residents arrested; spree included break-ins in Orillia

SIMCOE COUNTY - Officers from the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a male and female early Sunday morning in relation to a number of break and enters in Springwater Township, Orillia, Tay Township and Adjala-Tosoronto Township.

At approximately 4:49 a.m. on Sept. 9, 2018, officers responded to an alarm at the Hillsdale Corner Store. Upon arrival, police discovered the front door had been badly damaged. Suspects were unable to gain access and quickly fled. 

At approximately 5:06 a.m. Southern Georgian Bay OPP responded to a 911 call at the Waverly Esso gas station on Hwy. 93, north of Hillsdale. An unknown male suspect was observed smashing the front glass with a large rock.

The caller reported that he observed a male running from the scene, fleeing in a dark coloured minivan. OPP officers arrived on scene and began patrols and shortly after a traffic stop was conducted in the Elmvale area and a male and female were placed under arrest.   

After further investigation it is believed that the male has been involved in several Break and Enters in Springwater, Orillia, Tay Township and Adjala-Tosoronto Township.

As a result, Christopher MacDonell from Barrie was taken into custody and is now facing the following charges;

  • CC 248(1)(b) Break, Enter a place - commit indictable offence X8
  • CC 351(2) Disguise with intent X 5
  • CC 733.1(1) Fail to Comply with Probation Order X 12

He was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

42-year-old Charmaine Sinclair from Barrie was taken into custody and is now facing the following charges:

  • CC Break, Enter a place - commit indictable offence X 2

She was released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date in Barrie.
