PENETANGUISHENE - On Jan. 24, 2019 at 10:57 p.m. the Communications Centre of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call from a concerned citizen of a vehicle driving erratically and smashing into parked vehicles on a retail mall parking lot in Penetanguishene. Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment attended the scene and learned of the suspect vehicle which had fled the scene prior to their arrival.
Two officers located the suspect vehicle on Main Street, Penetanguishene and successfully stopped the suspect vehicle by boxing the vehicle in using their police vehicles with minimal damage.
The lone male driver was arrested and transported to Southern Georgian Bay detachment for further investigation which resulted in Gabriel Donovan, 27, of Sudbury being charged with the following driving offences;
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14 (1) (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
- Drive motor vehicle - no licence contrary to section 32 (1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario
The vehicle he was operating was towed and impounded for 7 days and his driving privileges have been suspended for 90 days under the provisions of the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) program. He was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Feb. 7, 2019.
