Man charged with driving while impaired by drug

Officers were dispatched to assist paramedics with a driver who was in medical distress

MIDLAND - Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched at 1:50 a.m. Aug. 18, 2018 to assist County of Simcoe Paramedics with the driver of a vehicle who was in medical distress. Officers attended the scene in front of a William Street business in the Town of Midland along with Midland Fire Service members. Officers, noting the circumstances, entered into a impaired driving investigation which continued at the hospital were the male driver was transported to by attending paramedics for medical care.

As a result, Anthony Eakley, 55 years of Severn Township, has been charged with the following offence:

  • Care or control while impaired (drug) contrary to section 253 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

His vehicle has been impounded for seven days and his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days under the administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS) He was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Nov. 15, 2018.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
