The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating several thefts from vehicle which occurred sometime between Oct. 29, 2019 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 30, 2019 at 8 a.m. in the City of Orillia.

The recent thefts occurred in the areas between Barrie Road and Coldwater Road. The thefts were from unlocked vehicles or vehicles that had items in the back of the truck box.

The Orillia OPP is looking for witnesses or information that can help find the person or persons responsible for these thefts. In one case a woman had her late husband's ring stolen from the vehicle. If anyone can assist the police in these investigations they are encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 705-326-3536 or 1-888-310-1122.

Thefts from vehicles are preventable. Some tips that can help keep your items safe from would be thieves are:

  • Bring items of value inside the house.
  • If you're shopping and go to more than one shopping centre place your new items in the trunk or hide the items.
  • Leave items of higher value to be purchased just before you go home.
  • Lock your doors.

There are groups of people who walk around checking vehicles to see if they are locked. If the vehicle is not locked they will go through and take anything that is of value. If there is something of greater value damage to car windows has occurred. Please be mindful of your valuables and try to remember these tips. Life is busy and it's not right that people steal from others; however, it is a fact that there is a small percentage of the population that will take what doesn't belong to them.

Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are committed to public safety, delivering proactive and innovative policing in partnership with our communities. Officers value your contribution to building safe communities.
