Orillia man faces drinking and driving charges

MIDLAND - Over the Nov. 9 - 13, 2018 period, members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) participated in three RIDE check stops across the detachment patrol area checking over 70 drivers for sobriety with no drinking and driving offences being detected.

Officers were also dispatched to 11 traffic related driving complaints and investigated 35 motor vehicle crashes most of which were weather related along with responding to over 200 calls for service from the public.

Drinking and driving incident 

On Nov. 9, 2018 at 8:05 p.m. officers responded to a report of a vehicle that was off the road near the intersection of Highway 12 and Triple Bay Road in Tay Township. Attending officers spoke with the male driver of the vehicle and entered into a drinking and driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation Tyler LeClair, 37 years, of Orillia has been charged with the following:

  • Driving while ability impaired - motor vehicle (alcohol) contrary to section 253 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood contrary to section 253 (1) (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

His vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days and his driving privileges have been suspended for 90 days under the provisions of the administrative drivers licence suspension (ADLS) program.

He was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Nov. 22, 2018.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
