An Orillia woman has been charged with impaired driving and public mischief after an investigation that began with a report about a stolen vehicle in Bradford.

On Tuesday, June 7, at approximately 2 p.m., the South Simcoe Police Service was called to a report of a vehicle stolen overnight and returned with damage to an address in the area of Professor Day Drive and Breeze Drive. The investigation continued.

At 5:40 p.m., police responded to a citizen-initiated complaint and located the vehicle in question in a parking lot on Holland Street West, where the driver was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old Cheryl-Lynn Matthias of Orillia was charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired (excess blood alcohol) and public mischief relating to the earlier report of a vehicle theft.

Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days.

There is no excuse for impaired driving. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, rideshare, public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture. Do your part to ensure everyone gets home safe.
