Police are investigating a vehicle fire at a railroad crossing in Oro-Medonte.
Emergency crews responded shortly before 11 a.m. Friday to a report of a vehicle fire at a railroad crossing on Line 8 North. Oro-Medonte firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle was destroyed. No one was in the vehicle.
The OPP Emergency Response Team and the Canine Unit searched the area, but no one was located.
A stop-train order was issued on the track from 11:30 a.m. until 3:15 p.m., and Line 8 was closed to Warminster Sideroad for the investigation.
When asked if the investigation was related to a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday in Penetanguishene — in which police were looking for a suspect vehicle — OPP Const. David Hobson would only say the investigation was ongoing.
