The body of a 47-year-old man from Orillia has been recovered from Bass Lake. Orillia OPP made the grim discovery Wednesday afternoon.

On Friday afternoon (April 30), a search began for a man who went fishing in the Bass Lake area and did not return at the scheduled time.

The OPP later located an abandoned boat in the area and asked shoreline home owners to search their properties.

The OPP marine unit and an OPP helicopter scoured the area Friday afternoon and evening and, at times, throughout the weekend.

On Tuesday, the search intensified. At that time, the Orillia OPP Marine unit was joined by the force's Underwater Search and Rescue Unit along with the OPP's K9 unit.

Police were unable to provide any further details.
