Teens arrested with handgun face drug trafficking, firearm charges

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested three teens with various offences relating to possession of a firearm and drug trafficking.

On March 07, 2020, a member of the Orillia OPP was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 400 when a vehicle was stopped for a traffic infraction.

While police were speaking with the occupants of the vehicle a subsequent drug investigation took place. Police located inside the vehicle a quantity of psilocybin, cocaine, and a handgun.

As a result of the investigation a 15, 17 and 19-year-old have been charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code;
  • Possession of a Loaded Firearm Contrary to Section 95(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The 15-year-old youth was also charged with:

  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance Contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance Contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The two youths in this matter were held in custody and release on a Justice of the Peace Undertaking with a court appearance of April 9, 2020, at the Ontario Youth Court of Justice, Orillia.

The adult was also held in custody and release on a Justice of the Peace Undertaking and set to appear next on April 6, 2020, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Orillia.
