An unidentified substance discharged into the air at a Barrie hotel caused some commotion this afternoon.

Barrie police officers, city firefighters and Simcoe County paramedics responded to a call at the Comfort Inn on Hart Drive on Saturday afternoon due to the hotel reporting a substance in the air on the second floor.

The second floor was evacuated while Barrie firefighters ventilated the area.

The investigation into exactly what the substance was is continuing.

“We currently have two persons who have been transported to Barrie police headquarters on Sperling Drive for the ongoing investigation,” Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday on Saturday.

Leon declined to confirm whether the two people are under arrest in regards to the incident, or were just being questioned.

He did say, however, that the hotel has now been deemed safe by first-responders.

Leon said further information would be released as it becomes available.
